Special Delivery Health Education Program

Optional Benefit for Expectant Mothers
For eligible members, BlueAdvantage Administrators of Arkansas wants to
help you obtain information and coverage options that will assist you in having
a healthy baby. BlueAdvantage groups may purchase the optional Special Delivery
health education program as an additional benefit to health plan members regardless
of their pregnancy-risk status.
Special Delivery employs three strategies — education, assessment and coverage options
— to educate the expectant mother in the prevention of preterm births secondary
to high-risk prenatal conditions.
For Moms-To-Be
The program and its staff are dedicated to the good health of all mothers and their
babies. Once registered, each expectant mom will receive educational material and
coupons by mail to encourage good health practices during pregnancy, including materials
to increase her awareness of symptoms that may signal preterm labor.
High-Risk Care
The Special Delivery nurse can assist in coordinating coverage of home-health care
in lieu of hospitalization for the high-risk patient whose physician feels she would
benefit from this alternative care. Through case management, we can provide coverage
of services that are not normally offered, such as skilled-nursing assessments and
nursing-assistant care in the home for conditions including:
- Pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Diabetes mellitus
- Preterm labor

This comprehensive list of telephone
numbers and Web site addresses should help members who are pregnant locate community
resources, health education classes and other sources of information on pregnancy
and prevention of preterm birth.

We hope that by encouraging women to participate in this program, we can make every
delivery a "Special Delivery."

Healthy Babies, Healthy Business
In response to a national crisis of premature births, The March of Dimes has created a website that companies
can promote directly from their own company Intranet, Web site, or Extranet. Healthy Babies, Healthy Business
provides companies with educational material related to pregnancy and newborn health. By giving employees
access to "HBHB" through the Intranet, you can educate them about having healthy babies.
My 9 Months is the preconception and prenatal information program offered through March of Dimes.

Delivery nurse as a substitute for the advice of her own physician. The Special
Delivery program is not a substitute for the health care services and advice of
her physician and does not assume responsibility for her medical care or advice.
It is intended solely to provide general education as well as assistance in accessing
health plan benefits related to her pregnancy. You should always consult your own
physician and follow his or her advice and direction with respect to all aspects
of your or your child's medical care.
