Compare Hospital Quality
When your doctor recommends surgery or a procedure that requires you spend time in the hospital,
you may want to compare the quality of the care that different hospitals have
provided for your recommended surgery or procedure. There are differences between hospitals,
and we can provide you with information on how hospitals perform.
My Blueprint: Links to WebMD Hospital Advisor, a tool provided by BlueAdvantage Administrators of Arkansas to compare hospital performance by procedure or diagnosis. You may compare how the hospitals you select have performed when
treating other members of your health plan or when treating those on
Medicare. Depending on the state in which you live, the information
may be based on how the hospital performed on all patients under age 65,
not just those in your health plan.
How are rankings determined?
The rankings are determined by:
1. How many patients a hospital has treated for the procedure you have selected?
2. How many patients died?
3. What is the frequency and severity of each complication at this hospital?
4. How long did the patients remained hospitalized?

Would you like more information?
Through the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA): Improving
Care Through Information Web site, we can provide additional information on how hospitals
handle treatment for most adult patients with heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgery.
HQA is a collaborative effort between the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service, national
hospital organizations, accrediting organizations, consumer advocates and others. Through this
site, you can review how often hospitals provided treatments for certain medical conditions.
